Christine Reynolds



While completing her graduate degree, Christine Reynolds gained experience in structural design on transportation-related projects and facilities design. Her historic preservation experience included preliminary design studies for renovations to the original National Archives building in Washington, D.C., and an assessment of Tingey House (circa 1804) which is the home to the Chief of Naval Operations. Since joining WJE, Ms. Reynolds has worked on a variety of architectural and structural investigations, inspections, and restoration efforts. From full condition surveys to design and implementation of repairs, materials in her projects include brick masonry, cast stone, natural stone, historic wood windows; precast, post-tensioned, and cast-in-place concrete; exterior insulation finishing system (EIFS); roofing; waterproofing; flashing; and window and curtain wall systems. Ms. Reynolds’ work focuses on historic structures of all types; a large majority of her projects involve properties that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, several attaining Landmark status.

  • Harbour Square Cooperative (1789-1820) - Washington, D.C.: Restoration of wood windows and cast stone lintels and sills for historic townhomes, waterproofing consultation, and window replacement
  • Virginia Governor’s Mansion (1813) - Richmond: Water infiltration investigation, masonry facade recoating, masonry repairs, and metal roof replacement
  • Ponce de Leon Cooperative (1928) - Washington, D.C.: Building envelope restoration, including masonry repointing and replacement of windows; recipient of Best Historic Restoration in 1999
  • Chrysler Museum of Art (1932/1938/1964/1973/1989) - Norfolk, VA: Assessment and repair documents for limestone and cast stone facade; crack repair, flashing, repointing, sealing, and replacement of severely deteriorated stone units

Adaptive Reuse

  • Saint Elizabeths Hospital (1856-1910) - Washington, D.C.: Assessment and design of repairs to exterior envelope (roofs, masonry, windows, blast resistant upgrades) of more than ten individual buildings as part of an adaptive reuse of the campus
  • Kimpton Palomar (1931) and Monaco (1907) Hotels - Philadelphia, PA: Exterior envelope condition assessment, repair design, and construction observation for the adaptive reuse of the historic buildings; recipient of 2010 and 2013 Preservation Alliance of Philadelphia Grand Jury Award
