Roof Replacement and Masonry Repairs

Leaks were occurring into the area below the building's twelve separate roof areas, through the masonry walls and through the aluminum windows. The State of Connecticut issued a Request for Qualifications for Roof Replacement and Masonry Repairs of the Courthouse. Based on qualifications and experience with past projects submitted to the State, WJE was selected to perform the architectural services associated with the roof replacement and masonry repairs.

BACKGROUND

Constructed in 1972, New Haven County Courthouse is a nine-story limestone- and brick-clad structure with 20,000 square feet of roof area.

SOLUTION

WJE performed a facade and roof survey, completed water testing, and performed roof probes to determine the areas of breech in the system. Based on the findings WJE designed repairs and provided construction documents.

WJE oversaw the bidding and selection of contractors to perform the work, which included replacement of low-sloped roofing systems, repointing of mortar joints, replacement of sealant joints at limestone panels, repair/replacement of deteriorated limestone, and repair of the aluminum windows. Work was performed in phases over a 6-month period in which WJE monitored progress and adherence to the contract documents. The project was completed to the satisfaction of the client.
