Crosstown Concourse Receives AIA Architecture Award

The Crosstown Concourse project recently received a 2019 AIA Architecture Award. Located at the 1.3-million-square-foot former home of the Sears distribution center in Memphis, Tennessee, Crosstown Concourse was the center of a large-scale, mixed-use redevelopment project. The $200 million project transformed the retail distribution center that had stood abandoned since the early 1980s into a vibrant community. The Art Deco, concrete-framed, high-rise building offers many services, including a 400-student charter high school, 20,000-square-foot YMCA fitness center, 450-seat black box theatre, free art gallery, radio station, restaurants and retail, and the nation’s largest private dental clinic. In addition, nearly 300 on-site apartments provide housing for participants in arts, education, and medical residency programs. WJE was the exterior envelope restoration consultant for this adaptive reuse project.
