Lauran E. Drown

Associate II


Lauran Drown joined WJE in 2018 with more than ten years of experience in the areas of architecture, construction, and urban design. She also taught interior design for more than a year at The Art Institute of San Antonio. Her courses included Programming and Space Planning, Building and Mechanical Systems, and 3-D Design Basics.

Prior to WJE, Ms. Drown owned her own practice, where she provided design and construction-related services for clients in the San Antonio region and beyond, and focused on projects involving earthen construction. She continues to lead the way in this field as Vice President of Earthen Construction Initiative, a nonprofit organization, where she has had a significant impact in changing the City of San Antonio’s building code to include provisions on earthen construction. Through ECI, her involvement includes technical research on and developing codes and standards for earth construction concerning structural and thermal envelope performance. Ms. Drown also has experience coordinating the design, building, repair, and weatherization of single-family homes, as well as the design and construction administration of commercial projects, including heritage conservation projects.
