In this introductory webinar, Principal Mark Krueger gives an overview of how solid sawn wood allowable stresses are developed—an essential topic for understanding wood design. He explains the testing of solid sawn lumber and the methods used to develop published allowable stresses from the test data. The factors which account for naturally occurring defects inherent to wood and the factors of safety applied are explored as well. Mark also comments on significant industry changes to the allowable stresses in Southern Pine lumber.
