Experience

Thomas McMullan specializes in the design and investigation of various exterior building enclosure systems. These systems include windows, stick-built and unitized curtain wall, skylights, and sloped glazing assemblies; prefabricated wall panels; metal panel, terra cotta, stone, fiber-reinforced concrete, masonry and other types of rain screen cladding assemblies; architectural precast and mass masonry wall assemblies; EIFS; and roofing and waterproofing. From modern high-performance facades to historic structures, Mr. McMullan has worked with architects, developers, construction managers, colleges/universities, government agencies, and healthcare institutions on hundreds of projects throughout the United States. He also engages in the performance verification of the above referenced systems, both in a forensic capacity and in the context of new construction, using ASTM and AAMA voluntary guide specifications and test standards.

  • Penn Medicine Pavilion - Philadelphia, PA: Design-assist and building enclosure commissioning (BECx) of 1.5 million-square- foot, five hundred-bed clinical facility
  • Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine, South Tower - Philadelphia, PA: Design peer review and quality assurance services during construction of hospital expansion for Penn Medicine 
  • Inova Fairfax Hospital - VA: Design peer review and quality assurance services during the renovation and new construction of several existing and new campus buildings 
  • Penn State HUB, Robeson Center Addition and Renovation - University Park, PA: Design review and quality assurance services during expansion of the center for student activity
