Athanasios A. Metaxas

Experience

Thanos Metaxas joined WJE in 2019 and has participated in a variety of structural investigations, analysis, repair designs, and construction administration projects. Mr. Metaxas works on concrete, concrete masonry, steel, and wood structures. His experience also includes repair and rehabilitation of several stucco and brick masonry facades.

Prior to joining WJE, Mr. Metaxas gained experience in structural design at several structural engineering firms both local to Austin, Texas, and international in scale. His time at these firms involved using advanced modeling and analysis of complex structures, as well as developing structural details.

• 1100 Peachtree Place Offices - Atlanta, GA: Investigation of displaced granite cladding and fractured CMU supporting wall due to foundation settlement; development of repair drawings for both the CMU wall and granite panels

 

Nondestructive Evaluation

• Indian Lakes Tower - Hendersonville, TN: Investigation and mapping of faulty reinforcing of a CMU tower utilizing ground penetrating radar
• Georgia International Convention Center - Atlanta: Investigation of delaminated concrete at a newly constructed convention center arena

• Villa Sonoma Condominiums - Atlanta, GA: Rehabilitation of stucco facade and repairs to wood framing
• Winding River Village - Atlanta, GA: Repair design for multilevel steel balconies to be replaced

• IH20 Bridge Lifting - Douglasville, GA: Analysis and design of lateral bracing for two bridges to be braced during the lifting process and repairs

• Pikeville Medical Center Garage - Pikeville, KY: Analysis and design of steel; external reinforcing of concrete double-tee flanges

 

Facade Access

• Fulton County Courthouse - Atlanta, GA: Analysis and design of facade access equipment to be installed on the roof of the historic courthouse
• 10 Peachtree Place - Atlanta, GA: Field investigation of existing facade access equipment to develop recommendations for future repairs and additions

 

Structural Analysis/Computer Modeling

• Fulton County Courthouse - Atlanta, GA: Analysis of historic concrete roof structure to determine sustained loading from new facade access equipment

• University of Tennessee, Knoxville White Hall - Knoxville: Load testing of custom steel facade support brackets to support a brick masonry facade
• Emory Clinic Parking Garage - Decatur, GA: Investigation of parking deck after a car fire

 

Facade Assessment
