Experience

Andrew Conwell specializes in the investigation, analysis, and repair of existing concrete and steel structures. He has worked on various structures, including office and residential high-rise buildings, parking structures, and civil infrastructure. He has also designed, inspected, and load tested various configurations of interior and exterior facade access systems on high-rise buildings. Mr. Conwell’s projects have included evaluating and investigating existing buildings, designing repairs and strengthening, developing construction documents, and performing construction observations.

Prior to joining WJE, Mr. Conwell’s previous experience was in the energy and transportation sectors. His previous work involved the design and development of construction documents for various projects.

  • Prudential Plaza - Chicago, IL: Analysis of existing steel structure for increased loading from tenant build-out, including live loads for new amenity spaces, loads imposed by new monumental stair, and new mechanical equipment loads
  • Discover Chatham Call Center - Chicago, IL:  Design of steel framing and structural modifications for new courtyards and joist reinforcement for mechanical equipment upgrades as part of a conversion from retail to call center  
  • 25 East Washington - Chicago, IL: Investigation and evaluation of historical steel and clay tile arch floor system for proposed live loads for a new amenity space

 

Repair and Rehabilitation

  • Old Post Office - Chicago, IL: Inspection, repair design, and construction period services for concrete structures at plaza and track level
  • Former Railroad Depot - Chicago, IL: Construction progress inspection and structural remediation recommendations for conversion of masonry railroad building into restaurant

  • High-Rise Office Building - Chicago, IL: Condition assessment and design of repairs for 1920s steel fire escape
  • Residential and Commercial Buildings - Chicago, IL: Inspection mandated by City of Chicago to inspect exposed metal structures; development of repair recommendations
