Unmanned Aerial Systems

Taking visual inspection to new heights.

WJE routinely utilizes Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS / Drones) as one tool in our suite of inspection and analytical techniques.

WJE's fleet of small unmanned aerial systems (drones) and more than thirty FAA-certified pilots across the United States conduct structural and architectural inspections and assessments of difficult-access structures and buildings, including steep-sloped roofs and multi-story exterior walls, exhaust chimneys or stacks, bridge beams and deck trusses, fire-damaged structures, water-infiltrated flat roof areas, and more. Drones can be equipped with specialized inspection equipment including high-definition cameras, providing minimum 16 megapixel photographs, 4K videography, FLIR thermal imaging cameras, and LiDAR sensors.

Remote sensing data capture is a quick and safe method to collect data for all types of structures.

"Drones, quite literally, are our eyes in the skies."

David Cheyne, Drone Flight Instructor

WJE routinely leverages our expertise in structural assessments and partnerships with software developers, such as Drone Deploy, to find unique ways to visually inspect structures while keeping our staff safe.

"WJE utilized drone as a tool for up-close observations terra cotta conditions in the upper clock tower – this ultimately led to a 3-D model of the building."

Jeffery Dowgala, Structural Engineer

"Using a drone was invaluable for the safety of our inspection team."

Ben Clemons, Structural Engineer

Construction administration using drones has proven to be an invaluable asset. It allows WJE a literal birds-eye view of the site and the ability to focus in on issues that may otherwise be overlooked.
