Experience

Martina Driscoll has performed investigations, condition assessments, repair design, and construction observation services for a variety of materials and facade systems, including concrete, brick masonry cavity walls and mass walls, granite panel veneers, metal panel systems, ashlar stone facades, architectural terra cotta, and metal and glass curtain walls. She is particularly interested in the assessment and repair of these materials in historically significant structures. Ms. Driscoll has also performed building envelope consulting services, including building enclosure peer review, design assistance, and construction period services on multiple buildings throughout the Washington, D.C. region and beyond.

Building Enclosure Consulting

  • National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, New Campus East - Springfield, VA: Design peer review and construction period services for precast curtain wall and metal panel facades as well as enclosure consulting on the ETFE atrium roofing
  • University of North Carolina, Genome Science Building - Chapel Hill: Design peer review and construction period services for precast curtain wall and metal panel facades; consulting on greenhouse structure located on building roof level
  • American Red Cross National Headquarters - Washington, D.C.: Facade consultation, water leakage investigation, consultation during deconstruction, repair, and reconstruction of historic limestone portion of the structure
  • George Washington University, New Science and Engineering Hall - Washington, D.C.: Design peer review and construction period services for the various and complex curtain wall assemblies included in the design as well as other enclosure assemblies; assistance with development and review of the enclosure quality assurance plan

 

Facade Assessment

  • U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Post-Occupancy Evaluations - Various Locations, U.S.: Part of a multidisciplinary team engaged to review the performance of VA buildings against established design requirements

 

Repair and Rehabilitation

  • The Homer Building - Washington, D.C.: Facade consultant during cast stone facade repairs and consultation on stabilization and repairs to the historic glazed, architectural terra cotta facade
  • FDIC Student Residence Center - Arlington, VA: Leakage and masonry damage investigation; repair and rehabilitation contract documents including flashing replacement and masonry repairs
  • FBI Academy - Quantico, VA: Assessment of brick masonry facades and roofs and repair and rehabilitation design
  • Washington Tower - Arlington, VA: Granite facade panel failure investigation and repair and rehabilitation contract documents; oversight during removal of original stone cladding and recladding with modified anchorage

 

Historic Preservation

  • Washington Monument - Washington, D.C.: Participation in development and implementation of repairs following the Mineral, Virginia, earthquake
  • Virginia General Assembly Building - Richmond: Facade consultation during cleaning of the historic and nonhistoric limestone and granite
  • Georgetown University, White-Gravenor Hall - Washington, D.C.: Facade assessment of brick masonry and cast stone and stone facades, assessment of roofs, and repair and rehabilitation design

 

Water/Air Leakage Assessment

  • United States Naval Academy, King Hall Galley - Annapolis, MD: Investigation of recurrent leakage at roofing and development of repair contract documents; limited oversight during construction
