Sasaki Appointed to California Building Standards Commission

California Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. has appointed Kent Sasaki, principal and San Francisco unit manager of Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates (WJE), to the California Building Standards Commission (CBSC).

Mr. Sasaki, who has been with WJE for 23 years, has performed engineering investigations on hundreds of structures, including high-rise buildings, warehouses, apartments, houses, bridges, tunnels, aqueducts, seawalls, water tanks, power plants, historic structures, and monuments. He investigates damage from earthquakes, fire, ground movement, construction-related vibration, blast, and flooding. He earned a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering and a master of engineering degree in structural engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.

"I am honored to receive this appointment and will do all I can to help the CBSC to fulfill its mission to produce sensible and usable state building standards," said Mr. Sasaki.

The California Building Standards Commission is an independent commission within the State and Consumer Services Agency whose role is to produce building standards and administrative regulations while ensuring that the statewide building code development and adoption process is efficient and effective.
