Bruns Rejoins WJE

WJE is pleased to announce that Steven R. Bruns has rejoined the firm as an Associate Principal. Mr. Bruns will be based in Indianapolis to build and support core practice areas within Indiana and adjacent states.

Mr. Bruns brings over thirty years of experience in the evaluation and assessment of buildings, structures, and materials in the as-built environment. He has provided project management and technical leadership on a wide variety of facilities, including conducting building and due diligence surveys for capital planning purposes as well as for real estate transactions. Mr. Bruns also has significant experience related to national disaster response and spent nearly four months assessing public facilities and hospitals in New Jersey on behalf of FEMA following Superstorm Sandy.

Mr. Bruns started his career with WJE as an intern at the Northbrook headquarters before working full time in the Princeton, New Jersey, and Dallas, Texas, branch offices. Mr. Bruns has spent the last twenty years working within the Indiana market and was responsible for starting and developing an investigative engineering group for one of the largest A/E firms in Indiana. During his tenure, this group grew to over fifteen architects and engineers located in five states.

Mr. Bruns is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Concrete Institute (ACI), and the International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI). He served as president for the Indiana chapters of ACI and ICRI. He currently serves as the Region 9 Representative on ICRI's national Board of Directors. Mr. Bruns is also a Structures Specialist on Indiana Task Force 1 - one of FEMA's 28 Urban Search and Rescue Teams - and has been deployed for search and rescue activities following Hurricanes Rita and Ophelia in 2005 and Hurricanes Ike and Gustav in 2008.

Mr. Bruns holds a bachelor of science and a master of science in civil engineering (structural emphasis) from Purdue University and a master in business administration from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. He is a licensed professional engineer in Indiana and Illinois.
