Civil engineers, structural engineers, architects, project managers, property managers, and other professionals may occasionally interface with pressure vessels on their projects or at their facilities. Most have little familiarity with key concepts, which can cause miscommunications with pressure vessel professionals, logistical challenges, and—in some extreme cases—safety issues.
In this webinar, engineers Steven Altstadt and Melanie Sarzynski provide a basic introduction to metal pressure vessels, including design fundamentals, common fabrication specifications, commissioning, operation, and fitness for service evaluations. The presenters also review common challenges that occur at the interface between pressure vessels and other engineered systems.
By the end of the webinar, you will be able to:
- Describe a pressure vessel and how it differs from other systems that hold gas, liquid, and solids
- Summarize the main parts of a pressure vessel and their respective functions
- Explain common damage mechanisms, failure modes, and how to mitigate them through design
- Compare how different government jurisdictions regulate new pressure vessels and the continued use of existing pressure vessels
