Experience

Since joining WJE in 2018, Katie Whiteman has been involved in a wide variety of projects, including facade condition assessments and investigations, roofing and waterproofing consulting, and repair and rehabilitation design for new and historically significant buildings and structures. She has worked on various building systems including curtain wall, mass masonry wall, stone panel cladding, and EIFS. Ms. Whiteman is also experienced in preparing construction documents and providing construction period services. Prior to joining WJE, she studied civil engineering with a structural focus.

  • Ash Grove - Vienna, VA: Structural assessment and crack monitoring of an eighteenth-century detached mass masonry kitchen
  • General Assembly Building - Richmond, VA: Preparation of repair and restoration documents for historic building elements
  • Craven Terrace - New Bern, NC: Evaluation of thirty-nine mass masonry structures and development of repair documents
  • Senate Underground Garage - Washington, D.C.: Waterproofing and historic materials consulting during the rewaterproofing of the below-grade parking structure
  • Smithsonian Institution Building - Washington, D.C.: Construction period services for repair campaigns implementing repairs developed by WJE

  • Hart Senate Office Building - Washington, D.C.: Monitoring survey of the marble and limestone facade
  • Smithsonian Institution Building - Washington, D.C.: Facade survey and long-term monitoring of the sandstone masonry facade
  • 1125 15th Street - Washington, D.C.: Visual assessment from grade and limited interior survey of curtain wall and masonry facade element

 

Repair and Rehabilitation

  • Jones Grant Apartments - Raleigh, NC: Development of repair documents to reclad portions of the brick, EIFS, and fiber cement facades of three apartment buildings

 

Building Enclosure Consulting

  • Cameron Park - Alexandria, VA: Construction period services and consulting for a five-story, mixed-use retail and residential podium-style building

 

Water/Air Leakage Assessment

  • INOVA CCRI - Fairfax, VA: Nozzle testing of existing curtain wall system
  • Willard Building - State College, PA: Historic brick and limestone facade rehabilitation, thermal and hygrothermal analysis, water penetration testing, adhesion testing of closed-cell spray foam insulation, and peer review
