Experience

Since joining WJE in 2019, Marita Ellis has been involved in a variety of projects, including repair and rehabilitation design, facade condition assessments and investigations, waterproofing consulting, and construction observation services for new, existing, and historically significant structures. Ms. Ellis’s services have included a variety of facade systems, including masonry cavity and mass walls, historic wood windows, aluminum-framed windows, and curtain walls. Her building material experience includes stone, brick, and terra cotta masonry; below- and above-ground waterproofing; wood; and concrete.

  • Russell Senate Office Building (1903–08, 1933, Architect of the Capitol), Capitol Hill - Washington, D.C.: Stone facade restoration construction period services, including seismic retrofit installation observation and reporting
  • Senate Underground Garage and Plaza (1932, Architect of the Capitol), Capitol Hill - Washington, D.C.: Waterproofing replacement construction period services
  • Hart Senate Office Building (1982, Architect of the Capitol), Capitol Hill - Washington, D.C.:  Development of facade repair contract documents
  • Regal Rockville Center - Rockville, MD: Water leakage investigation and development of hot-applied rubberized waterproofing replacement design and construction documents

 

Historic Preservation

  • University of Virginia, Alderman Library (1937) - Charlottesville: Building envelope assessment of historic brick masonry, windows, engaged columns, wood cornice, and roof

 

Condition Assessment 

  • Virginia Department of Transportation Annex Building (1961) - Richmond: Investigation and evaluation of distress at limestone masonry facades, development of repair recommendations, and energy-efficient exterior wall section
  • Pelican Walk Condominium - Panama City Beach, FL: Investigation of distress at fenestration to evaluate damage from Hurricane Michael

 

Facade Assessment

  • University of Pittsburgh - PA: Facade ordinance inspections and condition assessment of five structures on the university campus and medical center

 

Water/Air Leakage Assessment

  • Sheppard Pratt Health System - Elkridge, MD: Construction observation services, including water penetration and air leakage testing for compliance to construction documents

 

Historic Structures Reports

  • Mount Gilead - Centreville, VA: Development of historic structures report for a 1785 Dutch Colonial to document history, condition, and treatment recommendations
  • Sully Plantation Outbuildings - Chantilly, VA: Site work to develop building preservation plans for five historic outbuildings
