City of Snellville Billboard Collapse
Construction Quality Assessment

The fatal collapse of a billboard structure while it was under construction caused the City of Snellville to question the integrity of similar structures that had recently been erected in the city.

CLIENT
City of Snellville

STRUCTURE
The failed structure—and five similar structures that had recently been completed within the city—consisted of a steel pipe mast that carried a steel frame that was designed to support billboards.

SOLUTION
WJE worked with other experts and the billboard structure design engineer to address the city's concerns regarding the cause of the collapse and the condition of similar structures. Initially, we developed a comprehensive billboard structure inspection protocol that was to be implemented by others. After the inspection work performed by others proved unsatisfactory, WJE inspected the remaining billboard structures and assisted with the implementation of repairs to address deficiencies. We also helped the city during subsequent litigation.
