WJE Corporate Librarian Selected for Leadership Initiative

March 10, 2010
WJE Corporate Librarian Penny Sympson was selected as one of thirty Illinois librarians to participate in Synergy: the Illinois Library Leadership Initiative 2010. The initiative is a unique yearlong program designed to develop future leaders in the library profession and in the Illinois community. Group members will attend three sessions and work in an extraordinary environment with other developing leaders, experienced Illinois library leaders, and nationally recognized speakers. The goal of the program is for each individual to develop leadership skills that can be applied in local, state, and global arenas. The initiative, which started in 2002, is sponsored by the Illinois State Library and the Illinois Library Association.

"I am thrilled that Penny has been selected to participate in this unique endeavor," said Illinois State Library Director Anne Craig. "Synergy participants will be exposed to new strategies and new ways of thinking about the future of the library profession. We must be proactive and seek out new library leaders and keep our libraries growing and vibrant in the coming years. I am confident that Penny and our other Synergy participants will help us chart a course for the future that encourages citizens to enter the library profession and become library leaders, while maintaining our libraries as cornerstones of our communities."

WJE's library provides and maintains various materials suited to the firm's professional practice needs. The collection consists of periodicals, books, codes, standards, CD-ROMs, DVDs, and WJE company reports. A number of electronic resources provide immediate access to such items as WJE authored articles and ICC building codes. WJE's library plays a vital role in providing staff valuable information to assist in client support and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

"As a knowledge-based practice, our success is dependent on our ability to research and solve our clients' problems thoroughly and efficiently. The WJE library, thanks to Penny's efforts, plays a significant role in this regard. Congratulations to Penny on being selected for this important professional development opportunity."
