Staff Members Participate in Roadside Cleanup for Earth Day
The roadway was initially adopted by members of the JTC as part of a charitable philanthropy celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of WJE in 2006. Staff from offices nationwide participated in a friendly competition entitled One Good Thing. Personnel organized and participated in social activities and events that benefitted their local communities.
In keeping with the One Good Thing initiative, members of the JTC adopted Pfingsten Road in conjunction with the Illinois Adopt-A-Highway program. The program brings citizen volunteers into partnerships with the Illinois Department of Transportation to pick up trash and to keep Illinois roadsides clean.
"In honor of Earth Day, this was a great opportunity for our group to make a positive impact within our local community and to help save the environment," said Associate Principal and JTC staff member Dirk Heidbrink. "We had a great time organizing the cleanup event and look forward to keeping our adopted roadway earth-friendly in the future," he said.
WJE volunteers picked up everything from water bottles and plastic bags, to Styrofoam cups and baby toys. They collected almost thirty bags of trash in all. In keeping with WJE's core ideology and Earth Day initiatives, members of WJE will continue to gather roadside debris in order to protect the environment and to benefit the town of Northbrook.
