Experience

Since joining WJE in 2014, Steven Egwele has performed investigations, facade assessments, and construction observation services for building enclosures, including aluminum- framed curtain walls, glass fin curtain walls, horizontal glazing and skylights, metal panel systems, terra cotta panel systems, brick/stone masonry, and EIFS. Mr. Egwele’s building enclosure consulting experience also includes peer review and design assistance. Prior to joining WJE, he worked as an engineer, concentrating in design and detail of curtain wall and exterior wall systems.

  • George Washington University, Science and Engineering Hall - Washington, D.C.: Construction period services for unitized and stick-built aluminum curtain wall, terra cotta and stone panel rain screen, and PVC and modified bitumen roof assemblies
  • Children’s Hospital of Richmond Pavilion - VA: Construction period services for unitized and stick-built aluminum curtain wall, aluminum windows, insulated metal panel, brick masonry, composite metal panel, plaza waterproofing, roofing membrane, and weather barrier

 

Building Enclosure Commissioning

  • Johns Hopkins University, School of Nursing - Baltimore, MD: Peer Review of drawings and specifications; development of  building enclosure commissioning (BECx) specification and test matrix; construction period services for unitized curtain wall, double-skin curtain wall, EIFS, EPDM, and hot-applied rubberized asphalt; advanced acoustic performance requirements
  • Montgomery College, Rockville Student Services Center - MD: Peer review of drawings and specifications; development of BECx test matrix; construction period services for masonry veneer, long-span curtain wall, curtain wall sunshades, multiple roof membranes, and entrance canopies

  • D.C. Water Headquarters - Washington, D.C: Peer review and building enclosure consulting services for total enclosure, including faceted unitized curtain wall, faceted stick-built curtain wall, metal panel with integration to an existing structure, and replacement of existing roof membrane
  • Skip Viragh Outpatient Cancer Center - Baltimore, MD: Peer review and building enclosure consulting services for total enclosure, including cassette curtain wall, ribbon windows, stick-built curtain wall, UHPC panels, and expansion joint interface with existing parking garage

 

Facade Assessment

  • Woodner Apartments - Washington, D.C.: Condition survey of a 1,000-unit mid-rise apartment complex, including exterior walls, fenestration, waterproofing, roofing membrane, and hardscape
  • Village Condominiums at Wild Dunes - Charleston, SC: Condition survey of three mid-rise hotel/condominium buildings,  hotel, and clubhouse, including exterior walls, fenestration, sloped roofs, roofing membrane, and hardscape

 

Water/Air Leakage Assessment

  • Watergate Hotel - Washington, D.C.: Investigation of water intrusion at exterior wall panel, including leak recreation, leak isolation, and recommendation for repair
  • One Skyline Tower - Bailey’s Crossroads, VA: Investigation of water infiltration at curtain wall on high-rise building, including leak recreation, isolation, and recommendation for repair

 

Repair and Rehabilitation

  • Ascension St. Vincent’s Southside Hospital - Jacksonville, FL: Facade and leakage investigation, development of facade repair and rehabilitation drawings and specifications, and replacement of aggregate thin precast panels with insulated metal panel
  • Social 28 - Gainesville, FL: Construction observation of facade rehabilitation, including installation of  new weather barrier, windows, storefronts, deck coating and stucco; field testing to evaluate repairs
