Matthew K. Haberling

Experience

Matthew Haberling has extensive experience with forensic investigation of a variety of existing building envelope systems for historic and contemporary buildings. His previous projects include investigation, repair design, and construction period services for stone, masonry, stucco, and curtain wall facades; skylight systems; low-slope and steep-slope roofing; and various  fenestration types. Mr. Haberling is also experienced in historic site projects involving restoration and waterproofing of traditional hardscapes and historic stairways.

Mr. Haberling has worked on a range of projects from large institutional complexes to single-family residences. He has also provided consulting services to architects related to facade and roof restoration and on the application of preservation principals to historically significant buildings. 

Mr. Haberling has been involved with projects that received national, state, and local awards. These include organizations such as the American Institute of Architects, National Trust for Historic Preservation, Preservation League of New York State, and New York Landmarks Conservancy. He has also lectured throughout the United States and Canada on the subjects of historic roofing, window restoration, and historic plaza and facade restoration.

  • Fallingwater - Mill Run, PA: Investigation of a long-standing leak at the upper floor of the main residence and recommendations for long-term repairs
  • United Nations - New York, NY: Leakage investigation and waterproofing design development of facilities at subgrade locations
  • White Plains City Hall - White Plains, NY: Leakage investigation and repair design for historic cast stone and brick and interior marble panels at main lobby

 

Repair and Rehabilitation Design

  • Taino Towers - New York, NY: Condition survey and design of repairs at four residential and commercial towers consisting of cast-in-place and precast concrete, low-slope roofing, and ribbon aluminum and steel frame windows
  • Supreme Court Complex - Riverhead, NY: Condition survey and design of facade repairs for three buildings consisting of brick, terra cotta, limestone, granite, and concrete; roof replacement of slate and standing-seam, lead-coated copper roofs
