The Role of Air Pressure in Condensation Problems

Norbert V. Krogstad, Principal

Building pressurization plays a significant role in condensation problems. In this webinar, Norbert Krogstad (an architect in WJE's Architecture unit) briefly reviews the physics behind condensation problems in buildings, explaining how air movement from air pressure differentials either causes surfaces to be cooled along airflow paths or causes humidified air to flow across cold surfaces resulting in moisture deposition. Norbert reviews common ways that pressure differentials occur in buildings, will discuss how condensation problems are caused by these pressure differentials, and shares several case studies to illustrate these concepts and describe the repair approaches for dealing with the condensation problems in these case studies.
