Roof Consulting for Installation of Solar Panels
WJE was retained by the solar panel installer at the request of the building management company Vornado Realty Trust to provide roof consulting services. The work involved the installation of new solar panels arrays on two large roof areas of the mall. One of these roofs was a thermoplastic polyolefine (TPO) membrane, and the other roof was a bituminous membrane. Both roof systems were still under manufacturer's warranty.
BACKGROUND
The Bergen Town Center is a 1.5 million square foot regional shopping center located in Paramus, New Jersey. The mall features three anchor department stores along with specialty shops and eateries.
SOLUTION
WJE evaluated the existing roofs and reviewed the integration of the solar panel arrays into the two existing roof systems at the mall. Arrays were hinged to allow for access to the underside of the array, and underlying roofing was installed on protection membrane sheets of the appropriate roofing.
WJE also provided observation of all roof penetrations during the course of the project.
